I have a GE side by side refridgerator. A few days ago, I noticed that the water filter in the back of it was leaking water. I replaced the filter, however now everything is now freezing in the refridgerator section. I have turned down the temperature to 1 and it still is freezing my food, especially the tomatoes and lettuce. What do I do?

Jesse Long:Hi! Give me a minute to type up a small summary
Customer (name blocked for privacy):sure
Jesse Long:Your side by side refrigerater runs by having a thermostat in the freezer. If the freezer is not cold enough, it knows the fridge is not cold enough. When not on, there is no air flow between the fridge and freezer, but when the compressor turns on to cool it down, a door inbetween the fridge and freezer opens up. This is called the dampner door. If this door does not close when the compresser turns off, the air from the freezer continues to come over, and it freezes the fridge side.
Jesse Long:Also, are you sure that 1 is the warmest?
Jesse Long:What do you have the freezer at?
Customer (name blocked for privacy):the freezer is at 6
Jesse Long:And what is the scale for GE?
Customer (name blocked for privacy):I don't understand the scale question
Jesse Long:On the settings, it goes from 1-6 or 1-10?
Customer (name blocked for privacy):10
Jesse Long:OK, the six is good
Jesse Long:Is the compresser constantly running?
Jesse Long:Does it ever turn off?
Customer (name blocked for privacy):occasionally I hear a popping sound coming from the appliance
Jesse Long:Hmm, interesting. Does the motor in the back ever turn off?
Customer (name blocked for privacy):yes I think so
Jesse Long:OK. Then this definately sounds like a dampner door problem
Customer (name blocked for privacy):is there something that can be reset
Jesse Long:Can you get me the model number of the unit?
Customer (name blocked for privacy):sure, hang on
Customer (name blocked for privacy):g6s25lgmbbb
Jesse Long:Give me just a moment
Jesse Long:I'm sorry, that isnt a correct model number, you will have to check that.
Customer (name blocked for privacy):GSS25LGMBBB
Customer (name blocked for privacy):while I was checking the model number, I checked the scale, it goes from 1-9
Customer (name blocked for privacy):The compressor stopped running when I turned it to 0
Customer (name blocked for privacy):so I put it back on 1
Jesse Long:Good, thank you
Jesse Long:That basically tells me that the control board works fine
Jesse Long:It is definately a dampner problem
Jesse Long:The dampner sits inbetween the fridge and freezer, on the fridge side.
Jesse Long:There is no way to just reset the fridge.
Jesse Long:You can try unplugging it and plugging it back in, but I highly doubt it will do anything.
Jesse Long:Do you have any more questions?
Customer (name blocked for privacy):what is the approx price to have it repaired
Customer (name blocked for privacy):or can it be repaired
Jesse Long:Well, if you would want a servicer to come out, you would be looking at the service call price, which is about $70 dollars in PA, and is common throughout the states.
Customer (name blocked for privacy):the refridgerator isn't that old, maybe 5 yrs
Jesse Long:You would then be looking at the price of the part, which is not that bad, and the minor labor to install it.
Jesse Long:Then yes, I would definately have it repaired.
Customer (name blocked for privacy):it is a part that I can repair myself
Jesse Long:Well, you would have to take apart the controlls where you control the temperature. That is the full assembly where everything is done.
Customer (name blocked for privacy):ok, Iwill get someone to come out then
Jesse Long:Although it is easy for a tech like me to do, we do it all the time. It may be difficult for you.
Customer (name blocked for privacy):thank you for your advice
Jesse Long:Do you have any more questions for me?
Customer (name blocked for privacy):hello?
