I have a maytag dependable care electric dryer that quit working today. Before it quit the heating element worked and the drum still worked it just seems like the start switch quit working first is this possible and if so may there also be a underlining issue also what is your best opinion to resolve it. Where can it to get a simple if that is it?

Hello,

It is possible that your push to start switch may be bad, could have a bad thermal fuse also, First thing is we need to make sure the machine is getting the proper voltage.

Turn the breaker off to the machine. then turn it back on and try the dryer.

Let me know how you make out with this and we can go from there.

I tried the breaker already and nothing changes but my husband says it seems like it needs to cool down then it seems like it tries to start.

Hello,

It sounds like the motor is bad. The only other thing that could cause your issue your having is if something was stuck in the blower wheel. You can check this by trying to spin the drum by hand. If you are able to spin the drum, the motor is bad. If you cannot spin the drum, then you have something stuck in the blower wheel.

As far as repair or replace. Overall, it would cost less to replace the motor than it would to replace the dryer. But that depends who much you like your dryer. Sometimes my customers are looking for a good reason to replace their dryer. As far as that goes, this would be good reason.

i can spin the drum with a load of clothes with no problem infact it turned on that what makes me think the switch or an element if there is such one in this dryer.
